Growing up my family moved around a lot. I was one of 5 children, second oldest, so there was always work to do, and I learned early how to care for and nurture others. When I went to college, I stayed pretty close to home, as my family still needed me. My aunt was an RN and I always looked up to her so I went to college (close by) at Missouri Western State University and got my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. By that time most of my siblings were in school so I ventured out and became a Traveling Nurse with American Mobile Nursing. Again, I moved around a lot. At 29 years old, I decided to settle down and have my own children. I knew I wanted to raise my children back home, in the Midwest, near family! I settled down in Kansas City and became a night nurse at North Kansas City Hospital while my kids were young. After 10 years of nursing in the ICU, critical care environment, I decided I needed a break from the physical and emotional challenges that came with that type of nursing. My kids were getting active in school activities and 12 hour shifts did not allow me to get involved. Since I moved around a lot, I felt I could appreciate the needs of others selling and buying homes and acclimating to new areas. Therefore my new dream job was to become a Realtor®️, help others buy and sell real estate. I knew it would take time to learn it all and grow clientele and how could I possibly do it all? Before giving up nursing I started studying real estate on-line and talking to brokers to see what they were looking for. They all said "no-one takes the online course and passes the state boards", but I knew that was my only option, my children were 4 and 6 at the time. So on little sleep, I worked, and studied, took care of my 2 girls, and I did it! I finished my online course and passed state boards with a high score! I knew it was meant to be. My first broker said "you must be some sort of genius to score so high on boards. Most people that take the online course don't even pass". But I worked hard, was determined and dedicated! So I retired from nursing and became a Realtor®️ full time. That was 10 years ago! Now my girls are almost grown, one in college and one in high school and I feel like I am always in school myself. Continuing education in the real estate world is a must to keep up with the laws and needs of buyers and sellers in an always changing market. Today, social media has changed the way people look for homes/market homes so I adapt so that I may continue to "care for/nurture" the needs of families and buyers and sellers, as that is what I have been engrained to do!
